Epidote is a mineral belonging to the epidote group, consisting of calcium, aluminum and iron sorosilicates. It is found in the form of elongated prismatic crystals, sometimes squat, rarely tabular or pseudo-octahedral, generally well terminated. It is found in metamorphic rocks generally associated with amphiboles. The main mines of discovery are in Europe and America. It is of predominantly mineralogical, scientific and collecting interest. The stone is also used in gemology.
