Amazonite is a green variety of microcline feldspar, also known as "Amazon stone". It is not clear where the name of this mineral comes from; some sources trace the name back to the Amazon River, where these green stones were found, although there are no reports of green feldspar deposits in the Amazon plain. The green color is linked to the presence of small quantities of lead and water in the crystal lattice of the mineral. Thanks to its green color, amazonite lends itself to being used in jewelry as a semi-precious stone.
