Chalcedony is a variety of microcrystalline quartz. The name derives from the Greek "Chalkedón", "Chalcedon", an ancient city in Turkey where this mineral was extracted. Its color is very variable and ranges from white to light blue, to blue, to red depending on the impurities present within the mineral. Chalcedony comes in the form of crusts or compact masses. Depending on the color and how it looks, chalcedony takes on various names, such as agate, carnelian, chrysoprase, etc.
