Topaz is an aluminum silicate mineral and fluorine. The purest and most intensely colored topaz crystals are worked like gems and used in jewelry since ancient times. The Bible repeatedly mentions topaz as a precious stone from Aaron's breastplate. The ancient Egyptians believed that the golden-colored topaz was created by the god Ra. It is formed mainly in plutonic and volcanic acid-type rocks and more rarely in metamorphic rocks. Topaz is an allochromatic mineral, that is, if chemically pure it is colorless. Elements such as chromium, manganese and iron give it the many colors with which it is known. In nature the following colors are found: red, pink, blue-green, light blue, pink-orange, yellow-brown, yellow-orange, yellow, colorless. Brown, yellow, orange, cherry, red and pink topazes are mainly found in Brazil and Sri Lanka. The pink ones are found in Pakistan and Russia.
