Moonstone is a variety of adularia that derives its name from the Adula massif, in the Lepontine Alps, where it was discovered in 1780 by the naturalist Ermenegildo Pini. It is a mineral of the tectosilicate subclass belonging to the feldspar group, made up of rhomboidal crystals of a greenish color due to chlorite inclusions. It was used by the ancients to capture lunar energy. In ancient Rome, it was believed that it originated from lunar rays which, hitting the rock, transformed it. It has always been a stone connected to the female universe. According to some legends, in distant times, soothsayers dressed as women held a moonstone in their mouths in order to see the future.
