Malachite is a secondary ore of copper. Its typical color is green. The name was assigned to it by Pliny the Elder and derives from the Greek μαλαχή, "mallow", with an allusion to the green color of the mallow leaves. It is typically found as aggregates or encrustations. It can also be found as udder aggregates. Individual crystals or clusters of crystals are rare, but when found they are typically acicular or prismatic. It is also often found together with azurite crystals, which are generally more tabular in shape.
