Amber is the fossilized remnant of the resin emitted by conifers present on Earth millions of years ago. It is not entirely clear what the etymology of the name is, most likely it derives from the Arabic “àmbar”, with which ambergris is indicated. The colors of amber can vary from straw yellow to red, to brown, to gray. It may happen that inside the fossil amber there are, in perfect condition, insects that were trapped at the time of its formation. An interesting fact is that amber was found in the burial chambers in the Mayan ruins. Additionally, huge amounts of amber were burned atop the Aztec and Mayan pyramids as offerings to the gods.
